Marianne is fighting the fight of her life. Her sweet baby boy has cancer.
Hugo was diagnosed with cancer just days after his first birthday, and a tumor was found on his kidney. There is a lot of hope in Hugo’s story, but his ongoing battle remains a difficult trial for his family to endure.
I knew I had to do something.
So I asked Marianne for a few photos, and I used one of them to create this painting.
My hope is that, when Marianne sees this portrait of Hugo and Lulu, it will remind her of all the beauty that exists in her life, even in the midst of all her struggle. There is always beauty, but it is during trials that we truly need to cling to it. When times are hard, little nuggets of good things are like breadcrumbs leading us out of the woods. I hope this painting is a breadcrumb for Marianne. I hope it brings her hope.
And, one day, when Hugo’s cancer is but a memory, I hope that the painting will help remind his family how they went through a difficult and terrible fight, but that they were never alone.
You can follow Hugo’s fight with cancer on Marianne’s twitter feed, through the instgarm hashtag #gohugo, and also on the Go Hugo facebook page that was set up to encourage and support the Canada family.
Final painting measures 9 x 12 inches. Watercolor and ink on watercolor paper.
